North Korea has removed references to "national reunification" from its constitution and has newly defined its territory as land bordering South Korea, a move that analysts say may signal Pyongyang's intent to avoid direct conflict with Seoul.
The constitutional overhaul is widely seen as aligning with North Korea's evolving stance towards Seoul, shifting away from reunification and towards a more formalized state-to-state relationship.
Pyongyang took more than two and a half years to revise the...

North Korea welcomed foreign visitors and firms to a trade fair this week, showcasing domestically produced products, including the latest model of its sleek Jindallae smartphone.
Diplomatically isolated and subject to strict sanctions over its nuclear and weapons programs, North Korea has an aging manufacturing base, and analysts doubt its ability to produce high-quality consumer technology.
Nevertheless, Pyongyang has promoted the Jindallae – "azalea" in Korean – as a convenient way for citizens to stay connected.

The South Korean Ministry of Defense has dismissed four army officers for their involvement in the short-lived state of emergency declared by former President Yoon Suk Yeol in December 2024, for which he has been sentenced to life imprisonment for "insurrection."
Brigadier General Kim Jeong Geun, Colonel An Mu Seong, and Colonel Kim Se Un have been discharged from military service, the most severe disciplinary sanction, which also entails a 50% reduction in their pension, according to the South Korean news agency Yonhap.
Brigadier General Kim and Colonel An are accused of deploying troops to the National Assembly on the night the state of emergency was declared, while Colonel Kim is accused of transporting the troops to the scene.
Meanwhile, Colonel Kim Sang Yong, former deputy chief of the Criminal Investigation Command of the Ministry of Defense, has also been discharged from military service, the second most severe disciplinary sanction, for his alleged involvement in forming a team to arrest key politicians and other prominent figures. This sanction does not affect his military pension benefits.
These sanctions are part of an internal investigation launched by the Ministry of Defense regarding the events that occurred on December 3, 2024, and involve approximately 860 officers, of whom 180 have been identified for their involvement in what happened that day.

Last year, the Election Commission of India launched a "Special Intensive Revision", or SIR, describing it as an exercise to eliminate duplicate or deceased voters. So far, 13 states and federally administered territories have completed the task, leading to the deletion of over 55 million voters from the electoral rolls. But this exercise has become a political flashpoint in West Bengal, where 9 million voters have been deleted ahead of a crucial state election.

A South Korean appeals court on Wednesday sentenced former President Yoon Suk Yeol to seven years in prison for resisting arrest and evading a legitimate cabinet meeting prior to the brief imposition of martial law in December 2024.
The conviction for obstructing justice and other charges adds to the life sentence he already received for charges of rebellion stemming from his bewildering authoritarian push, which triggered the most serious crisis for the country's democracy in decades.
Judge Yoon Sung-sik of the Seoul High Court stated that the former conservative president avoided the mandatory full cabinet meeting before declaring martial law, forged documents to conceal the omission, and deployed security agents "like a private army" to resist attempts by law enforcement to arrest him in the weeks following his impeachment. The former president remained silent as the verdict was read and did not make any comments.
Yoo Jeong-hwa, one of Yoon's lawyers, described the verdict as "extremely disappointing" and announced that the legal team will appeal to the Supreme Court. Yoon has also appealed his life sentence.
In January, a lower court sentenced Yoon to five years in prison, but acquitted him partially of charges of abuse of power related to the cabinet meeting preceding the declaration of martial law, considering that…
