The conflict between the Honduran Medical College (CMH) and health authorities has once again escalated following new complaints from the organization regarding administrative failures, salary delays, and alleged labor irregularities affecting hundreds of healthcare professionals in the public system. In a letter addressed to the Minister of Health, Nasry Asfura Zablah, and the Deputy Ministers, Ángel Eduardo Midence and José Miguel Castillo, the medical leadership expressed their concern about the lack of progress on commitments previously agreed upon with the Ministry of Health. The document, officially received on May 8th at the Presidential Palace and at the Ministry of Health offices, outlines a series of problems that, according to the CMH, continue to deteriorate the working conditions of doctors and create uncertainty within hospitals and healthcare centers in the country. One of the main complaints concerns delays in salary payments. The Medical College stated that more than 600 professionals are still waiting for outstanding payments, a situation they describe as critical due to the economic impact on workers and their families. The organization claims that, despite previous meetings and dialogue sessions held with health authorities, several cases of doctors who have not received full payments or whose administrative processes are stalled remain unresolved. Pending appointments and labor complaints…

A new traffic accident has once again brought sorrow to the roads of Honduras, after a large truck violently collided with a house in the municipality of Taulabé, in the Comayagua department, resulting in one confirmed fatality and several injuries. The incident occurred on the CA-5 highway, one of the country's main roads and a frequent site of serious accidents due to the constant heavy traffic that passes through the area. According to preliminary reports, the truck driver lost control of the vehicle while driving through the area, causing the heavy vehicle to veer off the road and crash into a house near the highway. The impact destroyed part of the house's structure and left several people trapped under the debris, causing scenes of desperation among neighbors and family members. Rescue teams, including firefighters, police officers, and local residents, quickly mobilized to attempt to rescue the victims who were trapped under the wreckage. Authorities confirmed that one person died as a result of the accident, while several others were injured and taken to nearby medical facilities. At this time, the identity of the deceased and the injured has not been officially released, while rescue teams continue to work in the area to ensure that no one else is trapped.

The Honduran Minister of Security, Gerzón Velásquez, attributed the recent increase in violence in Honduras to the reorganization of criminal gangs involved in drug trafficking. He directly linked this phenomenon to U.S. operations in the Caribbean, which aim to curb the flow of narcotics from South America to North America. Velásquez predicted that, as a result of the measures implemented, the security situation in the country will show concrete improvements before the end of the year, according to statements reported by local media. The dynamics of crime in Honduras are being altered not only by internal factors, but also by international interventions. Velásquez explained that U.S. military operations off the coast of Venezuela have significantly restricted the activity of Honduran gangs involved in drug trafficking, forcing them to seek alternative routes for transporting narcotics to North America. He detailed that the impact of these restrictions has led criminal organizations to adapt and generate new patterns of violence. In this process of reconfiguration, many of the recent violent incidents are linked to territorial disputes over the control of drug sales, the minister stated. Furthermore, the return of immigrants from Mexico has introduced criminal models that are being replicated within the country, a phenomenon that...

The Public Ministry of Honduras has confirmed the 13-year prison sentence for Abner Geovany Bejarano, who was found guilty of aggravated sexual assault against a child at a juvenile detention center. The Special Prosecutor's Office for the Protection of Children and Adolescents (FEP-NIñEZ) presented compelling evidence that demonstrated how Bejarano forced the victim, a minor, to perform sexual acts under threat of death. Furthermore, the minor was coerced into involving five other inmates and suffered physical abuse for resisting these practices. The imposed sentence includes a ban on approaching the victim for 26 years, double the principal sentence, mandatory registration on the sex offender registry, and suspension of citizenship. Bejarano will also be held civilly liable for the damages caused. The events came to light following a psychological evaluation during which a professional heard Bejarano threaten the victim to prevent him from revealing the abuse he had suffered. The investigation revealed that at the time of the crime, the defendant had already reached the age of majority, although, by court order, he was required to serve his sentence at a pedagogical center. After receiving the complaint and gathering the evidence, the Public Ministry proceeded to file the indictment, which resulted in the guilty verdict. The case of Abner Geovany Bejarano, sentenced in April of this year, highlights the...

A sign that once promised hope has been replaced by safety tape and the silence of an empty building. What for years served as the El Refugio home, is now the subject of an investigation that has shocked the northern region of Honduras, particularly in Choloma, Cortés. The arrest of its Swiss director, his partner, and technical staff, reveals a supposed network of abuse that allegedly operated under the shadow of negligence and fear. The silence was broken after several months of discreet investigations, when the Technical Agency for Criminal Investigation (ATIC) and prosecutors specializing in child welfare raided the center. The objective: to execute four arrest warrants against those who were supposed to be the ultimate protectors of vulnerable children. The detainees, identified as Christof Oliver Wittwer (the Swiss director), Petrona Betulia Bautista Pineda (the director's partner), along with a psychologist and a teacher from the center, face alleged charges of repeated sexual assault, cruel and inhuman treatment, and a serious failure to fulfill their duties of care. According to the ongoing investigation by the prosecutor's office, the abuse was not an isolated incident, but a systematic practice that exploited the vulnerability and abandonment of the victims. Under Investigation Elvis Guzmán, spokesperson for the Public Ministry, stated that "the investigations are ongoing, however, the Secretariat for Children, Adolescents, and Families (SENAF) has..."

The total number of cocaine packages seized amounted to 231,525, in addition to two extra ounces found at another location. The Public Ministry reported that the estimated value of these seizures exceeds L 381,900,000 (14 million USD). The operation also resulted in the seizure of 10 firearms, 84 projectiles, two containers of suspected special marijuana, and three vehicles. The estimated value of these assets exceeds 76 million lempiras, which, according to authorities, represents a significant blow to the illicit economy of the MS-13 gang.
