Chinese scientists have developed a method to generate electricity and achieve higher energy efficiency than conventional burning, while producing zero carbon dioxide emissions, by placing coal inside a “battery”.
“Coal-fired power” conjures images of heavy pollution, steep carbon footprints and modest efficiency. But a novel, direct coal power technology challenges that stereotype by eliminating combustion entirely and sidestepping the CO₂ emissions that have long defined coal use.

In the years following the Second World War, it was easier to find music in Liverpool than it was to get a kilo of sugar. The city's status as a port created a natural connection with what was happening in other parts of the world. It was then that a young Richard Starkey, a sickly boy who had barely learned to read properly at the age of 9, discovered music. But before rock & roll and skiffle, it was another genre that captivated him: country music.
Also known as Country & Western and Americana, this musical genre developed in the heart of the agricultural South of the United States, during a period of urban migration and the country's rise as a global power. The combination of guitars, violins, and poignant lyrics about poverty and rural life gained momentum. This was further fueled by the emergence of figures like Hank Williams, which helped to expand its popularity. By the 1950s, it was entering the mainstream music scene, propelled by its close ties to early rock & roll; in fact, the first songs by artists like Elvis Presley and Carl Perkins were often played on country radio stations.
It was at this point that the melodies of Williams and other pioneers reached the young Starkey, before he adopted the name Ringo Starr, which would later bring him fame. "I first got into country music, and that's when I realized I was trying to collect records," he recalled in an interview with NME.

BERLIN. The exiled prince of Iran, Reza Pahlavi, was attacked during his visit to Germany this Thursday. A protester approached Pahlavi, who was under guard, and threw a red liquid, similar in color to "tomato sauce," onto his suit and part of his face. The police immediately arrested the person responsible for the attack.
The incident occurred during a European tour that included previous stops in Sweden and Italy. Pahlavi, 65 years old, arrived in the city with the aim of positioning himself as a facilitator of a political transition in his home country, in the face of the escalating war in the Middle East.
As the leader was leaving one of his exhibitions, an activist breached the security perimeter and threw the red liquid at him before security personnel were able to apprehend him. Following the incident, the Berlin police arrested the individual and took him to a local precinct to begin the corresponding investigations.
The moment the red liquid was thrown at Pahlavi.
The presentation.
During a press conference held before the incident, the leader questioned the effectiveness of diplomatic channels with the current authorities in Iran and described dialogue with the clerical hierarchy as a "policy of appeasement" and "a concession."
The heir to the throne, who was overthrown in 1979, also stated that the new leaders of the Iranian government only...

The exiled Iranian Crown Prince, Reza Pahlavi, was doused with a red liquid on Thursday as he exited a building in Berlin.
Pahlavi had just emerged from a press conference, during which he criticized the ceasefire agreement between the United States and Iran, when the incident occurred in front of the German federal press building.
Apparently, the liquid that covered his back and neck did not cause any injuries, and he greeted his supporters before getting into a car that drove away. Police indicated that the liquid appeared to be tomato juice.
The alleged perpetrator of the crime, whose identity has not been revealed in accordance with German privacy regulations, was immediately arrested by the police.
Pahlavi, 65, is the son of the former Shah of Iran, who was so hated that millions of people took to the streets in 1979 to overthrow him. However, Pahlavi is attempting to position himself as a key figure in the future of his country, although it is unclear how much support he has in Iran after nearly 50 years in exile.
Hundreds of his supporters demonstrated on Thursday near the German parliament building, according to the German news agency dpa.
Pahlavi, who was not invited to meet with any government representatives during his visit to Berlin, argued on Thursday that the ceasefire agreement presupposes that the behavior of the Iranian government will change, and that "one will be dealing with people who have suddenly become pragmatic."
