It was in late February that U.S. and Israeli forces launched a series of airstrikes against Iran, which resulted in the death of the then-Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The offensive followed months during which Washington urged Tehran to halt its nuclear program, which, according to U.S. authorities, could be used to build nuclear weapons. It also occurred after the administration of President Donald Trump harshly criticized Iranian leaders for the repression they exerted on protesters who had been demonstrating since the end of 2025, expressing their discontent with the country's worsening economic situation. Following Ali Khamenei's death on February 28th of this year, his son, Mojtaba Khamenei, assumed the position of new Supreme Leader of Iran. Similarly, individuals from the most radical factions of the regime rose to the highest positions of power, after other high-ranking officials were also killed. Among the new leadership figures are Mohammad Bagher Zolghadr, head of National Security, and Ahmad Vahidi, commander of the Revolutionary Guard. In a recent interview with the Wall Street Journal, Danny Citrinowicz, who previously headed the Iran section of Israeli military intelligence, commented: "The war changed the regime, and not for the better." "We have created a reality that is worse than the one that Iranians faced before the war..."

Not long ago, capturing the Milky Way or a decent starry sky required a significant investment: a DSLR or mirrorless camera, a fast lens, a tripod, and a monk-like patience to understand the 500 rule, adjust the ISO, and deal with manual exposure in the dark. Today, under the clear skies of the Cajón del Maipo or in locations specifically designed for photographing the sky, such as San Pedro de Atacama, the process has been reduced to a couple of taps on the screen. The Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra, the latest release from the South Korean company, arrives on the market refining what already existed. Its astrophotography mode, supported by the Expert RAW app, is a testament to how computational photography has moved beyond a mere trick to become a reliable tool for capturing images. Wilhem Krause, a journalist specializing in technology and editor of the website cliclick.cl, puts it simply: "The quality of the star photo always depends on the size of the sensor, but even more important is the amount of light present. I, in Temuco, which has a much clearer sky, once went with the intention of taking pictures of the sky, but there was a full moon, and the moonlight provides enough light to significantly ruin the result." He recounts it as a warning from an experienced voice, knowing that when it comes to light, nature still wins by a landslide. And yet, the progress is real. Within the Expert RAW app, Krause says, there is a mo…

TEHRAN (AFP) - Iran warned on Wednesday that it could block the Red Sea, to which it has no land border access, if the United States continues its restrictions on the Strait of Hormuz. If the United States maintains its maritime blockade and "creates insecurity for Iranian commercial vessels and oil tankers," that would be "the prelude" to a violation of the ceasefire, which has been in effect since April 8, according to General Ali Abdollahi, head of the Iranian armed forces command. "The powerful armed forces of the Islamic Republic will not allow any exports or imports in the Persian Gulf, the Sea of Oman, or the Red Sea," he added, according to a statement released by the state television. Developing story.

The Iranian regime warned that it will prevent any type of export or import in the Persian Gulf, the Gulf of Oman, and the Red Sea if the United States continues with what it called an "illegal" naval blockade of Iranian commercial and oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz. "If the aggressive and terrorist United States intends to continue its illegal naval blockade (...), the powerful Iranian Armed Forces will not allow the continuation of any type of export or import in the region of the Persian Gulf, the Sea of Oman, and the Red Sea," stated the commander of the Central Headquarters of Jatam al Anbiya, Brigadier General Ali Abdolahi, according to the Tasnim news agency. Abdolahi stated that any attempt by Washington to maintain the maritime blockade would constitute a violation of the two-week ceasefire agreement reached with the United States, which has been in effect since last Wednesday. The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on Tuesday that it has initiated a blockade of Iranian ports and has "completely paralyzed" the country's maritime trade, an action that is ongoing for a second day. The Iranian Revolutionary Guard had previously warned, two days before the United States imposed a blockade on the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, that any military vessels that approach would be "subject to a decisive response." LONDON — A man has denied blackmailing a former Conservative MP following a police investigation into unsolicited messages sent to prominent figures in Westminster. Oliver Steadman, 29, pleaded not guilty to one count of blackmailing William Wragg to obtain the phone numbers of up to 12 people. Steadman had been a Labour councillor in Islington, north London, but resigned after his arrest in June 2024. A trial lasting two to three weeks is only expected to begin in October 2027 in England's backlogged court system. Steadman is also charged with five other offenses of improper use of a public communications network. He is accused of sending a series of menacing messages to Wragg between February and March 2024, the same dates as the blackmail charge, and of sending an indecent image to each of four people, including Luke Evans, Ben Everitt, and Ross Thomson, who were Conservative MPs at the time. Steadman did not enter a plea to the other five charges at Southwark Crown Court on Wednesday. The Metropolitan Police launched an investigation in April 2024 after POLITICO revealed that several men in Westminster, including MPs, had received unsolicited WhatsApp messages from users calling themselves alternatively "Abi" or "Charlie." The series of events was quickly dubbed the "Westminster honeytrap scandal." Wragg resigned the Tory whip, saying he had leaked colleagues' personal phone numbers to a person he encountered on the dating app Grindr. He a…

LONDON — U. S. President Donald Trump has threatened to unpick America’s trade deal with the U. K. amid increasing frustration over Britain’s opposition to military action against Iran. In an interview on Wednesday, the president said America had given the U. K. a “good trade deal” that was “better than I had to,” adding that it could “always be changed.” His comments to Sky News come as tempers flare in Washington over the U. K.’s stance on Iran, with Trump also turning his criticism towards Prime Minister Keir Starmer — casting fresh doubt on the strength of the so-called “special relationship.” Asked about the relationship, Trump did not hold back. “It’s the relationship where: when we asked them for help, they were not there. When we needed them, they were not there. When we didn’t need them, they were not there. And they still aren’t there.” The U. S. president’s threat will sound alarm bells through Westminster 11 months after the U. K. became the first country to sign a trade deal with the U. S., which saw U. S. agree to lower tariffs on British automotives, steel and aerospace in exchange for beef and bioethanol access. As the first anniversary of the deal approaches, U. S. tariffs on British steel have still not been fully removed, while the future of the Technology Prosperity Deal negotiated during Trump’s state visit to the U. K. in September hangs in the balance amid concern over the pace of wider trade negotiations. The U. S. president, whose “drill, baby drill” mantra has defined his energy policy, also used the interview to sound off about the U. K.’s decision to cut back on new oil and gas exploration in the North Sea. “I think he [Starmer] has made a tragic mistake in closing the North Sea oil,” the president said. “You see your energy prices are the highest in the world.” Trump’s comments are awkwardly timed ahead of King Charles III’s planned state visit to the U. S. later this month. Despite his growing anger towards the U. K. government, Trump was full of warm words for the monarch, describing the king as a “great gentleman” and a “friend.”

U. S. President Donald Trump launched another attack on Pope Leo on Wednesday, while defending the U. S.-Israeli war on Iran. “Will someone please tell Pope Leo that Iran has killed at least 42,000 innocent, completely unarmed protesters in the last two months, and that for Iran to have a Nuclear Bomb is absolutely unacceptable,” Trump wrote on Truth Social, referring to the Tehran regime’s oppression of its political opponents. Leo, who is the top figure in the Catholic Church, has repeatedly condemned the Iran war and called for peace, and last week he decried Trump’s belligerent remarks about wiping out Iran’s “whole civilization.” Trump initially criticized the pontiff on Monday, calling him “Weak on Crime, Weak on Nuclear Weapons” and “terrible for Foreign Policy.” Trump also shared an AI-generated image portraying himself as a Christ-like figure, which drew backlash from Christian commentators and some of his evangelical, political allies. The president later removed the image and claimed that it was not supposed to resemble Jesus, but him being a doctor. For his part, the pope responded Monday to the White House fury, saying he had “no fear” of the Trump administration, and would not be silenced. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, who had close ties with Trump but also relies heavily on catholic voter support, backed the Vatican chief, saying it was his right “to call for peace and to condemn every form of war.” Trump, in turn, blasted the Italian leader for her remarks Tuesday, saying they were “unacceptable” and that she was “no longer the same person.”
