Elements of the Secretariat of the Navy (Semar) collected 330 kilograms of hydrocarbon-contaminated material on beaches in the municipality of Alvarado, Veracruz. The incident occurred when naval personnel conducted a reconnaissance flight to verify the possible presence of hydrocarbons on the coast of Veracruz. Indications of polluting material were detected on beaches in the municipality of Alvarado. Members of the Marine Environment Protection Department (PROMAM) traveled to Mata de Uva beach in the municipality of Alvarado to join the cleanup efforts in coordination with personnel from the Antón Lizardo Naval Polygon. Meanwhile, personnel from the Beach Cleanup Brigade of the Port Captaincy of Alvarado, in coordination with the municipal Department of Ecology, conducted a tour of the area known as "El Faro," where approximately 300 kilograms of material with similar characteristics were located and collected. The agency reported that the First Naval Region will continue with the surveillance, verification, and response efforts for this event, in coordination with authorities from all levels of government, to contribute to the protection of the marine environment.
