During the morning conference, the president announced that this week, the Ministry of Energy, together with the management of Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex), will convene gas station owners due to the rising cost of diesel, which, she said, has reached levels that are not justified. "This week, the Ministry of Energy will meet with the director of Pemex and gas station owners because they are raising the price of diesel and also of premium gasoline. Diesel should not cost 29.50 pesos," she stated. The president explained that she detected the increase during a tour over the weekend, after which she contacted the Secretary of Finance and energy authorities to request an immediate meeting with the sector. She indicated that, although Mexico imports part of the diesel, there are tax incentives through the Special Tax on Production and Services (IEPS), so the current prices are not fully justified. Sheinbaum emphasized that the goal is not to impose price controls, but to prevent abuses that impact the national economy. "Profeco will also be there. It cannot be that they take advantage of the global situation to raise prices," she said. On another energy-related matter, President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo confirmed that the Brazilian president, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, proposed establishing an energy alliance between Petróleo Brasileiro S. A. (Petrobras) and Petróleos Mexicanos for the exploration of crude oil in deep waters of the Gulf of Mexico, as part of a regional cooperation strategy in the energy sector. The president explained that the proposal arose during a telephone call between the two leaders, in which Lula highlighted Petrobras' technical expertise in deepwater exploration.
