Follow BIRN’s reporters for the latest developments as Serbians cast ballots in parliamentary elections seen as a showdown between the governing Serbian Progressive Party and the opposition Student List, which grew out of the student-led protest movement.
Early parliamentary elections are being held almost two years after the Novi Sad railway station disaster sparked mass anti-government protests led by students.
The main rivals are United Serbia – Aleksandar Vucic, the ruling Serbian Progressive Party’s list, and the Student List of candidates chosen by the student movement.
The elections are the biggest challenge yet to Aleksandar Vucic’s political dominance after 14 years of Progressive Party rule.
