President Trump announced a new Audi factory while campaigning in Georgia on Saturday, a move that arrived almost a week before November’s midterms.
“Today, I’m thrilled to announce a massive auto manufacturing investment in the great state of Georgia by a fantastic company,” Trump said during the Saturday rally.
“Audi has just committed to invest $4.2 billion in nearby Macon, Georgia, to begin the construction next month on a massive plant that will produce 200,000 cars a year. Think of that, think of that. Two hundred thousand cars a year, that’s incredible,” he added.
In a Saturday press release, Audi said that the company “is taking a major step in its global growth strategy with plans to establish its first U. S. plant site in Georgia, which will be among one of the brand’s largest production footprints globally.”
The company said in its release that the plant’s construction will start next year.
“Audi is building its future in America. As part of our larger U. S. strategy, we are focused on becoming an even more significant player in this market,” Audi of America’s president, Vito Paladino said in the release.
“This investment signifies the brand’s commitment to our customers, dealers, employees, and communities across the country.”
Trump’s announcement comes shortly before the midterms next month, in which he and his party are facing concerns over the U. S. economy due to the effects of the war against Iran and his tariffs.
The president’s approval rating has also slumped as of late, with it sitting at 39.1 percent on Sunday morning and his disapproval at 59.5 percent, according to a polling average from Decision Desk HQ.
