Supreme Court Justice Cristiano Zanin was drawn on Friday (16) to serve as the reporting justice for the lawsuit requesting a second round of voting for the Rio de Janeiro state government.
The lawsuit was filed by the PSD, the party of candidate Eduardo Paes, and seeks to suspend the decision of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), which last week annulled the votes received by candidate Anthony Garotinho (Republicanos) and ordered a retotalization of the votes for the office of governor of Rio de Janeiro.

The measure allowed Douglas Ruas (PL) to be declared elected in the first round, having gone from 49.27% to 50.88% of valid votes.
For the PSD, "the holding of a second round should depend exclusively on the votes of the electorate, not on procedural events."
"The contested interpretation, however, leaves open another path to the same result: whoever knows their registration will be denied can remain on the ballot, attract votes, and wait for the definitive annulment to remove those votes from the base," the party argues.
Last week, in another lawsuit on the case, Zanin denied a request from Paes's campaign to suspend the TSE decision.
