Far-right activist Laura Loomer put herself forward as a candidate for White House press secretary as Katie Zacharia was ousted from the role after just five days on Friday.
In three separate posts on the social media platform X, the conservative influencer argued her case.
“Here me out: Press Secretary Laura Loomer,” she wrote in an initial post.
Two hours later, Loomer followed up by stating she would “be an amazing Press Secretary.”
“I’d show President Trump all the receipts,” she continued. “I would bring my binder full of receipts to every briefing.”
Loomer also posted an image of her face poorly cropped onto an image of a woman with long blonde hair. Both Zacharia and former press secretary Karoline Leavitt are blonde.
The Hill has reached out to the White House for comment on Loomer’s posts.
Zacharia faced criticism after she cut short her first press briefing Tuesday, appearing visibly nervous and only taking three questions from White House reporters. Additionally, questions regarding her legal background have garnered scrutiny this week.
Loomer defended Zacharia in a Friday X post, accusing critics of being “unnecessarily cruel.”
“I wish Katie the best,” Loomer wrote. “I think it’s great that President Trump has people who are so devoted to his cause they are willing to subject themselves to public nitpicking on a daily basis. I’m sure he appreciates it and I think Katie had good intentions.”
Prior to Zacharia’s appointment as press secretary, several Trump allies were floated as possible contenders to replace Leavitt, including White House deputy press secretary Anna Kelly, former acting U. S. Attorney for New Jersey Alina Habba, former Department of Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin and conservative commentator Scott Jennings.
On Friday, prediction market Kalshi had Jennings as the top contender to fill this role, followed by Kelly and conservative author Elizabeth Pipko.
Trump told Fox News’s senior White House correspondent Peter Doocy following the news of Zacharia’s departure on Friday that he was not in a rush to fill the vacancy.
