Tesla unveiled a new version of its Roadster this October 15, the electric sports car developed with SpaceX technology that can lift off and perform turns in the air. The demonstration took place at a testing facility of the aerospace company in McGregor, Texas. The company aims to begin production in 2028. According to Reuters, the vehicle drove along a ramp upside down using a suction system, spun in the air, and landed with the help of its thrusters. In another maneuver, it jumped over a truck and other Tesla vehicles. How the new Tesla Roadster fliesThe flight capability belongs to the Roadster Rocket, a one-seat configuration available by invitation only. Tesla explains that it incorporates cold gas thrusters around the body, capable of generating forward and upward movement, as well as lateral rotation. These thrusters make small adjustments in fractions of a second to stabilize the car in flight. "So yes, it can fly," the brand states on its website. The outlet also described brief flights, although Tesla does not specify the flight duration or maximum height. Another component is a system of fans that extracts air from beneath the vehicle and generates suction against the surface. According to Tesla, it can hold the car upside down even when stationary. Its function is to increase grip, while the thrusters enable aerial maneuvers. Versions, reservations, and productionTesla presents the new Roadster: its Rocket version can fly with SpaceX thrusters Technology / La Tercera The series also includes the Performance, a two-seat road-oriented model, and the Thrust, a limited track edition with rear thrusters and an announced acceleration of 0 to 100 km/h in under one second. The announcement updates a project presented in 2017, whose production had initially been planned for 2020. Almost nine years after that first demonstration, Tesla showed the vehicle again and set a new manufacturing horizon. According to Reuters, the company opened reservations for the Performance and Thrust with deposits of US$50,000 and US$250,000, respectively. Those amounts correspond to down payments: Tesla still has to announce the final prices.
