WASHINGTON, October 16. /TASS/. The Ukrainian military has almost run out of Patriot interceptors as supplies have been irregular since May, The Washington Post reported. "As of October 7th, there were only ten missiles left; these were used up during the attacks. Currently, there are only a couple remaining," a Ukrainian official told the newspaper. A second person familiar with Ukraine’s air defense situation said the country was out of the weapons. According to The Washington Post, NATO continues to provide Patriot interceptors to Kiev as part of a program called the Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List (PURL), in which European nations pay Washington for weapons that are sent to Ukraine. "Each battery costs about $1 billion, which includes the launch system and ground radars, and each missile can cost upward of $4 million," the paper specified, adding that "it can take up to 36 months to produce a new missile." The Washington Post added that "the Trump administration has considered rerouting some of that aid to the Middle East to address US shortages."
