MELITOPOL, October 11. /TASS/. The Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant needs a temporary ceasefire for a safe repair of electrical equipment damaged by Ukrainian attacks at the nearby Zaporozhye thermal power plant, Communications Director Yevgenia Yashina told TASS.
The Zaporozhye thermal power plant transmits electricity from the Ferroalloy-1 line to the nuclear power plant, and its repair will reduce the risks of repeated blackouts.
She explained that the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant now receives power via the 330 kV Ferroalloy-1 line running from the right bank of the Dnepr, which is under Ukrainian control.
"Repairs are needed for the electrical equipment located on the territory of the Zaporozhye thermal power plant. It is this equipment that ensures the transmission of electricity from the Ferroalloy-1 high·voltage line to the Zaporozhye nuclear power station. As a result of shelling by the armed forces of Ukraine, part of this equipment was put out of service. Its restoration will increase the reliability of the plant’s power supply and reduce the risk of repeated outages," Yashina said.
Earlier, Rosatom CEO Alexey Likhachev said that the corporation had informed the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) about the need for repairs and the establishment of a temporary silence regime. Later IAEA head Rafael Grossi said he was negotiating with Russia and Ukraine a ceasefire in the area of the nuclear power plant for the repairs.
