In reviewing readers' comments on the security situation facing the country, a recurring concern can be seen regarding the conditions under which Carabineros carries out its work. After conducting an exhaustive analysis, the prevailing perception points to an insufficiency of equipment, resources, and institutional support in the face of an increasingly complex and violent criminal landscape. As a former secretary general of Carabineros, I share this assessment, as it is difficult to demand greater results when those entrusted with protecting the public do not always have the means necessary to effectively fulfill their mission. Strengthening security requires, above all, strengthening those who guarantee it.
