US President Donald Trump lashed out at his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelensky, over Kyiv's repeated bombings of Russian diesel refineries and argued that the country should have "a new president." Speaking from Andrews military base in Maryland, Trump stated that "the time has come for Ukraine to have a new president (...) who can make a deal. For some reason, Zelensky never makes deals." According to the US leader, "Zelensky could have resolved this war many, many times," but "chooses not to" and "wants to cause problems for the world." "He wants to cause problems for our farmers with his attacks on Russian refineries," Trump noted. "We told Zelensky, 'You can do whatever you want to Russia, but don't attack the refineries because that causes a problem for the world.' And what does he do? He goes and attacks the diesel fuel. He should stop, for crying out loud," he questioned. In this regard, Ukrainian forces have attacked Russian oil refineries in recent weeks in order to halt the Russian military offensive against Ukraine. This came after the lifting of sanctions on Russian diesel exports and despite warnings from Washington. Specifically, Trump agreed with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, that Moscow would supply "immediately" more than 300,000 tons of diesel fuel to the US and global market. The agreement also provides for the supply of "another 500,000 tons during the month of November and one million tons immediately after." Regarding the US measure concerning Russia, Zelensky stated that "this plays into Russia's hands, as it allows it to kill more people, prolong the war, have even less respect for the United States, and inflict even greater losses and damage on the world."
