New car sales resumed declines, measured over twelve months, but continued to rebound in their sales level.
According to the National Automotive Association of Chile (Anac), 30,989 units of light and medium vehicles were sold in September, a figure that represented a decline of 2.8% compared to the same month of 2025.
However, this marked three consecutive months of increase in the level of units sold, which were the highest since September of last year, when they totaled 31,871 units.
In its report, Anac noted that the year-on-year decline is largely explained by a high base of comparison with respect to September of last year, the month in which the emissions standard changed from Euro 6b to Euro 6c, which at the time led several automakers to promote the replacement of their products among their customers.
The trade association also indicated that the sector's figures come in an economic scenario that worries experts due to the negative performance of the economy, as measured by the Imacec, and the high unemployment level.
Despite this scenario, Anac highlighted that the automotive sector's cumulative sales between January and September reached 237,181 new light and medium units, a growth of 2.3% compared to the same period of 2025. With this, they also reached their highest level since the first nine months of 2022.
