DAF officially presented its New Generation of Trucks (NGD) in Chile, a family developed on a completely new platform that arrives in the national market with a focus on both long-distance transport and more demanding operations, including mining. Originally launched in Europe in 2021, the new generation has accumulated more than 125,000 units manufactured and was recognized with the International Truck of the Year award in 2022 for the XF, XG and XG+, while the XD received the same award in 2023. One of the main advances lies in efficiency. According to DAF, the new generation can achieve fuel consumption up to 13% lower than its predecessor, the result of a more aerodynamic body and a series of optimizations made to the drivetrain. The new architecture takes advantage of the change in European regulations on dimensions to incorporate more aerodynamic cabs, new deflectors, side skirts and fenders designed to reduce air resistance. Added to this are an automated transmission and longer maintenance intervals, seeking to reduce operating costs and increase vehicle availability. "With the NGD we are taking a very important step for transportation in Chile. We want this new generation to be understood not only as a new truck, but as a response to the challenges the industry faces today," said Gonzalo Labbé, general manager of DAF in Chile. More safety and space for the driverAnother focus of this new generation is safety. Depending on the configuration, the trucks incorporate assistance systems such as adaptive cruise control, frontal collision warning, autonomous emergency braking, lane departure alert, electronic stability control and an anti-slip system. Visibility from the cab also increases, with a windshield 33% wider and side windows that grow 15% compared to the previous generation. Some configurations can also replace conventional rearview mirrors with a camera system. The redesign also placed emphasis on the driver's working conditions, with larger cabs, more storage space, automatic climate control and solutions designed for rest on long-distance trips. Depending on the version, a 10.1-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth connectivity and compatibility with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are added. Engine of up to 530 horsepowerThe seven versions arriving in Chile use the PACCAR MX-13 six-cylinder, 12.9-liter turbodiesel engine, which complies with the Euro 6 emissions standard and was updated with new injectors, pistons, cylinder head, turbocharger and other components intended to improve its efficiency. The range includes power outputs of 483 and 530 hp, with up to 2,700 Nm of torque. The XF and XG versions use a 12-speed ZF TraXon automated transmission, while the XFC, intended for more demanding work, is equipped with a 16-speed gearbox and can reach a maximum traction capacity of 58 tons. The available configurations include 4x2, 6x2 and 6x4 options, allowing coverage from long-distance transport to more demanding operations. With this new range, DAF deepens its presence in Chile, a market where the brand has accumulated more than six years of experience with Euro 6 technology and where it operates under the representation and service network of SKC.
