MOSCOW, October 2. /TASS/. At least 7,000 US military personnel are currently stationed in Poland, Polish Deputy Defense Minister Cezary Tomczyk stated in an interview on RMF FM radio. "I think there are currently about 7,000 US military personnel in Poland," Tomczyk said, replying to a question from the radio host. The politician avoided giving a direct answer to the journalist’s question about whether the number of US troops in the country would return to 10,000. Tomczyk noted that in recent years, this number has ranged from 6,000 to 10,000. In turn, the defense official emphasized that what matters most to Warsaw is the combat experience of these troops and their ability to "deliver long-range and precision strikes." Earlier, the Polish Defense Ministry had stated that the rotation of US troops--temporarily suspended by a Pentagon decision in May--was supposed to resume in August. For his part, US President Donald Trump stated that the US would deploy an additional 5,000 troops to Poland. However, Trump did not specify which specific US military units would be sent to Poland, whether they would be deployed from other European countries, or whether this signaled a resumption of troop rotations. In addition, Warsaw and Washington are simultaneously conducting negotiations on the establishment of a permanent US military base in Poland.
