SEOUL, Oct. 2 (Yonhap) -- Personal information of 89 customers has been leaked from Hana Bank, the lender said Friday, in the latest data leak surrounding the nation's financial institutions.
The personal information, including resident registration numbers, names, addresses and phone numbers, was leaked in a hacking attack, Hana Bank said.
The data leak took place after an external hacking agent accessed the bank's "outdoor sales system," according to the bank.
An official at Hana Bank said the lender apologized to customers and will make utmost efforts to keep such an incident from happening again.
Woori Bank and NH Nonghyup Bank were said to have suffered similar hacking attacks, but no leaks of personal information happened as they blocked unauthorized access to their systems.
Earlier in the day, industry sources said customer information of KB Kookmin Bank, a major commercial bank, has been breached following a similar incident by its rival Shinhan Bank.
According to the sources, personal data of over 100 KB Kookmin Bank customers had been stolen via hacking.
On Thursday, Shinhan Bank said personal information of around 25,000 customers, such as annual income, names and phone numbers, had been leaked.
