WASHINGTON, October 1. /TASS/. US entrepreneur Elon Musk will co-lead Project Meridian, a new Pentagon initiative meant to identify new capabilities and technologies to deploy in the US military, US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth said.
According to the Pentagov chief, the new structure will be tasked with studying "the future of warfare. "Under the leadership of the department's chief technology officer, Emil Michael, Project Meridian will be co-led by three of our nation's best minds, Elon Musk, Palmer Luckey (founder of defense company Anduril Industries - TASS), and Newt Gingrich (former speaker of the US House of Representatives - TASS)," he said at Marine Corps Base Quantico, Virginia.
"Project Meridian, the future of warfare, is not about developing new strategies or new policies. We already do that. Rather, its purpose is to creatively look to the future, and identify the domains that we must conquer, and capabilities we must master," he stressed.
"We should have been thinking about autonomous warfare command 10 years ago. We need to be looking forward into the future to achieve technological and military dominance on the battlefield for decades to come," he added.
