The full Senate of the Republic began debate on the presidential initiative for reforms to the Federal Industrial Property Law, which proposes creating a system aimed at reviewing foreign capital that could compromise national security.
During this Wednesday's ordinary session, these reforms are expected to be approved, establishing that the National Foreign Investment Commission be joined by the Ministry of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), the Ministry of National Defense (Defense), and the Ministry of the Navy (Semar), as well as the National Intelligence Center (CNI).
PRI Senator Claudia Anaya commented that the participation of the armed forces in the reform is important, but she stressed that their participation must be well delimited and regulated.
The president of the Legislative Studies First Committee, Manuel Huerta Ladrón de Guevara, explained that this reform seeks to establish rules so that foreign investment contributes to the country's development without compromising our national security, since, he maintained, "economic openness and national sovereignty are not contradictory concepts."
