Supreme Federal Court (STF) Justice Gilmar Mendes once again criticized on Wednesday (30) the "selective leaks" of ongoing investigations at the Court.
During the opening of the afternoon session, Gilmar Mendes delivered a speech in honor of the first year of the term of the Court's current president, Edson Fachin. He took the opportunity to note that leaks, such as those that occurred in the Master case, have electoral motives.
The dean recalled that Fachin was the reporting justice for the Operation Car Wash cases and highlighted that the president conducted the investigations "with balance and without concessions to spectacle."
"In that period, Justice Fachin, there were no reports of selective leaks from our chambers, despite the sensitivity of the documents under our responsibility, nor any act that could indicate political-electoral use of the investigations," he stated.
Gilmar Mendes also said he believes Fachin will strengthen the Supreme Court "with rigor."
"Our votes have often pointed in opposite directions, based on differing understandings of criminal procedure. This divergence, however, never touched what united us: the conviction that the judge is not a party, nor an instrument of any cause," he concluded.
At the session held on the 15th of this month, Mendes accused Justice André Mendonça, then the reporting justice for the Master case, of selectively releasing excerpts of the investigation that mention Justice Alexandre de Moraes. He stated that "there is an unequivocal political-electoral bias in the way the matter was handled" by Mendonça.
