Honduras: Los Laureles dam rises to 28.89% while La Concepción remains in critical condition in Tegucigalpa

The data reflect the persistence of difficulties in guaranteeing the supply of drinking water in Tegucigalpa and Comayagüela, where the levels of the main supply sources remain below the records needed to face the population's demand with greater security. The UMAPS report details that Los Laureles registers a storage volume of 3.035 million cubic meters, a reservoir level of 1,017.40 meters above sea level and a plant production of 380 liters per second. The recovery of this dam is linked to recent rainfall in the Honduran capital. According to the report, the storage level increased approximately 2.5 percentage points during the last week, an improvement that represents progress compared to the scarcity conditions that have affected the city. Water production at the plant reaches 650 liters per second. Despite the fact that La Concepción is a larger infrastructure than Los Laureles, its reserves continue to be affected by the lack of rain in the sector where it is located. This situation has limited the reservoir's recovery and keeps water availability in a risk scenario for the Central District. UMAPS hopes that the rainfall will also reach the La Concepción area, so that the reservoir can capture greater amounts of water and progressively improve its storage levels. The difference between the two dams shows that the rains have not benefited the capital's main supply sources in the same way. While Los Laureles shows a recent recovery, La Concepción continues without achieving sufficient improvement to leave the reported critical level.
