A strong earthquake shook a large region of Colombia on Monday, causing the death of at least 111 people, leaving hundreds injured, and causing dozens of buildings to collapse. One of the most affected areas by the earthquake was the city of Cali, where Alejandro Éder, the district mayor, had to leave a radio studio when the quake began. In the video, which quickly went viral on social media, the moment before the movements that forced the official and his team to leave the place can be seen. As the earthquake grew in intensity, the panelists addressed their audience and said: "Ladies and gentlemen: caution!" Then, once the confusion took hold, they emphasized: "We are live on YouTube but, what do we do?" During that time, the Cali mayor took off his headphones and looked toward the studio door. "Please, attention: the tremor is large, magnitude 6.4 at this moment," warned the Colombian broadcast host while making the sign of the cross. Later, due to the ground movements, computers and microphones started to fall, the host jumped out of his chair and threw off his headphones. The highest number of fatalities was recorded in the departments of Risaralda, particularly in the city of Pereira, and in Valle del Cauca, especially in Cali. Dilian Francisca Toro, governor of Valle del Cauca, stated that part of the Cali University Hospital collapsed and at least five ICU patients are under the rubble. The confusion of the journalists amid the tremors Initially, the Colombian Geological Service (SGC) warned of a magnitude of 6.7 and a depth of 96 kilometers. However, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) stated that the earthquake was 7.4, which was later confirmed by the Colombian agency itself. The epicenter was located near the municipality of San José del Palmar, in the department of Chocó, approximately 20 kilometers from that town, at coordinates 5.04° latitude and -76.34° longitude. The movement was recorded by 32 stations of the national seismological network. "It's very strong.
