"Il Sole 24 Ore, so the Pd can buy it and relaunch it"

For over a year, the Democratic Party has been working to bring Unità back into the hands of the political community to which its history is linked. We have done so with discretion, seriousness, and prudence. Today, after the suspension of publications, we feel it is our duty to clearly state that our availability is full and concrete. We are ready to immediately purchase the publication at a price higher than that of the 2022 auction. A clear proposal: Unità returns to the Democratic Party, without corporate shares. We have also considered transitional solutions, up to a multi-year lease with a certain and binding path toward final redemption. Unlike in the past, we are not seeking investors because we are in a position to buy and relaunch the newspaper. We can undertake this commitment because in these three years of Schlein’s leadership, we have secured the Pd. The 2025 budget closed with a profit of over 3.6 million and a net worth of over 5.5 million. The best budget in the last 15 years. We have ended the layoff scheme for our employees, renewed and improved the contract, balanced the accounts, and significantly increased resources allocated to the territories, sending three times as much in three years as was sent in the previous seven. Thanks to this, the 2x1000 continues to grow: already, data from July of this year tell us that 524,840 citizens have chosen the Pd, for over 8.1 million euros; that is, the same resources we collected in 2023 not in six months but in twelve. We invest this solidity in good politics: to reopen offices, support organization, and rebuild tools for participation, information, and cultural development, for our campaigns on public health and education, on the minimum wage and decent work, on industrial policies and ecological transition. For this reason, we gladly welcome the appeal addressed to Romeo and the Pd by many personalities from culture and information: from Edith Bruck to Dacia Maraini, Gad Lerner, Nadia Urbinati, Anna Foa, Moni Ovadia, Ivano Fossati, and many others. Losing the voice of Unità would be a loss for the entire Italian left. In the last three years, the Festa dell’Unità has grown from about 200 to over 500. A community has returned to meet, discuss, organize itself. We want to restore the newspaper to those festivals, in the spirit indicated by Antonio Gramsci; that is, not a party bulletin but a tool attentive to gathering the voices and opinions of a large part of the country. Our proposal is on the table. Before other paths are taken, we hope that the will to return Unità to its people prevails. It would be nice to present the new Unità already in September at the national festival in Reggio Emilia. Not out of nostalgia. But because a left that wants to change the country also needs places to build ideas, culture, and thought.
