Minister Yasmín Esquivel Mossa presented a project before the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN) that highlights the protection of fishing communities and marine ecosystems, as this constitutes a central element of community identity, social cohesion, and cultural continuity of these communities. The project resolved the lawsuit filed by members of the fishing community of Las Barrancas, in the municipality of Alvarado, Veracruz, who claimed the omission by the Head of the Federal Executive Power to issue the Regulation of the General Law of Sustainable Fisheries and Aquaculture, despite the fact that its issuance was explicitly ordered; more than 18 years have passed since then. Thus, the amparo in review 100/2026 grants protection from Federal Justice to the members of the fishing community and sets a period of 180 working days for the competent authorities to carry out the necessary procedures to issue and publish this Regulation.
