The 2021 robbery with intimidation for which the fugitive was caught in the Southern Macrozone

Twenty minutes before 12:00 p.m. on Monday, officials from the Special Fugitive Justice Group of the Investigative Police (PDI) located the whereabouts of Rosamel Antonio Fierro Huenuman (36), a subject who had been a fugitive since 2021. The civil police found him in the middle of the street, specifically on Villagran and Portales streets, in the commune of Carahue in the La Araucanía Region. The 36-year-old man had been wanted for five years for his involvement in a violent robbery investigated by the Regional Prosecutor's Office of La Araucanía, in a case led by Prosecutor César Schibar. According to sources from La Tercera, Fierro was listed as accused in a case for robbery with intimidation and was detained in public while walking with his partner. The fugitive did not resist and was apprehended after his identity was verified, then transferred to the Special Police Investigations Brigade (BIPE) in Temuco. Minister of Security Martín Arrau was the first to highlight Fierro's arrest, emphasizing that "this is one more of the captures that the PDI is making thanks to persistent and silent work. Congratulations to their detectives: even if years pass, no search can be abandoned." "Let those who believe that time guarantees them impunity know: our police will go after everyone. Capturing each fugitive is also about restoring the authority of the State," concluded the government official. Fierro Huenuman's case dates back to 2021. At that time, U. R. R (34) and J. F. S (22) were patrolling inside the Aguas Blancas 2 estate, in the Nehuentúe sector in Carahue, when they were approached by a group of seven individuals, who, with their faces covered, ordered them to get out of the Maxus T-60 truck they were traveling in at that time. The victims were two workers from a company providing security services to Forestal Mininco and were conducting patrols when they were approached by the criminals, who carried shotguns, including Fierro. Along with threatening them with firearms, the criminal group searched their clothing and stole the victims' phones, as well as bulletproof vests and other security company equipment. Additionally, one of the workers was assaulted with kicks and punches. After stealing all their belongings and under threats, the criminals ordered the victims to leave the scene in the same truck. During their escape, the subjects threw stones, broke the vehicle's windows, and also fired shots into the air. Two years after the incident, the La Araucanía Prosecutor's Office managed to sentence two individuals to five years and one day of effective imprisonment for the crime of robbery with intimidation. At that time, Prosecutor Schibar highlighted that "each defendant received a sentence of five years and one day of effective imprisonment, meaning they cannot have any alternative benefits. In this case, it was important to consider the victims' opinions, who expressed their agreement and satisfaction, so we are satisfied from that perspective." However, Fierro, who had been a fugitive since 2021, was not brought to trial among the group of detainees.
