The Minister of Education, Héctor Rodríguez, shared through social media the management report for the 2025-2026 school year. The report highlights an increase in enrollment to 6,009,254 students (73,248 more than the previous cycle), the graduation of 369,810 high school students, and the completion of 178 effective school days out of the 188 planned, which is 94.68% of the calendar.
It also reports a student attendance rate of 82.73% and a reduction in the deficit of specialist teachers, which according to official figures decreased to 13,834 (a 45.52% decrease compared to July 2025).
The document also mentions attention to more than 266,000 teachers through the National Training Plan, the distribution of over three million food kits, increases in the delivery of medicines and health operations for staff, as well as progress in infrastructure (22 new constructions and attention to more than 1,400 schools) and the School Feeding Program, with an increase in the amount of food distributed.
The official message invites society to contribute “visions and constructive criticisms” to continue improving; however, in the comments accompanying the Instagram post — reposted by the ministry’s account — there are frequent complaints about the working conditions of teachers: salaries that many describe as insufficient, delays in payments, the absence of a collective contract for years, and discrimination in bonuses for teachers from different sectors.
Some voices point out that the figures on teacher coverage and training do not always translate into stability in the classrooms, and question whether the increase in enrollment and school days truly reflect a sustained improvement in quality or in daily working conditions.
The report itself acknowledges that there is still a deficit of specialists and schools that “still need to be built.” It remains to be seen how these numbers will translate in the next period, whose start is announced for September 14, amid a process of rehabilitating schools after the June earthquakes.
Official figures show progress in several indicators; however, the debate on social media insists that some of the structural problems — especially those related to the situation of teachers — remain unresolved.
