Music can be much more than a collection of songs when each release is part of a larger story. Based on this premise, the Chilean group Kinmakirú presents Despertar, a new single accompanied by a music video that continues the story begun in Santiago, deepening the worldview that the band has built through music, storytelling, dance, and staging. On this occasion, the local group also adds an international collaboration with Ensamble Arsis, a Colombian collective with an alternative roots that brings new nuances and sonic colors to this artistic experience. Combining a richly instrumental proposal with elements of Latin American musical tradition, Despertar offers a contemplative journey that invites stopping and looking inward. The song addresses the transformation process of a character who manages to break the cycle in which they were trapped to begin a path of personal development and spiritual awakening. "More than providing answers, the work empathizes with the questions that accompany existence: why are we here?, what is the meaning of the path we travel?, and how love can become a universal answer to these concerns," says a statement. That journey is also reflected in the audiovisual realm. Directed by Rodrigo Rodrigo, the music video depicts the protagonist's encounter with various figures from the mythology created by Kinmakirú, including Ajankar, their Prementales, and Awkayre, who guides and protects this transformation process. Dance, symbolism, ceremonial costumes, and visual storytelling are integrated to expand the experience of a work that invites each viewer to construct their own interpretation. The musical production was developed by Kinmakirú along with Ensamble Arsis, consolidating a collaborative effort that intertwines a cinematic-style composition with the richness of Latin American musical traditions. Osvaldo Rodrigo was responsible for editing, Ignacio Puebla handled the mixing, and Francisca Rojas did the mastering. Simultaneously, the music video was entirely produced by the band, with general direction by Rodrigo Rodrigo, reaffirming the self-managed and interdisciplinary nature that has distinguished the project from its beginnings. Comprising Macarena Ayala, Constanza Valenzuela, Maximiliano Moya, Rodrigo Rodrigo, Osvaldo Rodrigo, and dancer Lautaro Soto, the group develops a ritual rock proposal that integrates Latin American-rooted music and ancestral elements within a narrative universe created together with writer Zoru Kalashie, even incorporating a language of their own called Ukua. Inspired by various indigenous cultures around the world and references such as Tool, King Crimson, Heilung, Los Jaivas, Violeta Parra, and Víctor Jara, they create immersive shows where music, acting, dance, and visual language converge in a call to reconnect with nature and awaken consciousness. Despertar not only continues Kinmakirú's story: it invites each listener to start their own.
