Fire consumes former property in Germany linked to President Kast's family

A devastating fire consumed an old rural property in the town of Wiedemannsdorf, in the federal state of Bavaria, southern Germany, this Monday, completely destroying a building that reportedly held a historical link to the family of President José Antonio Kast. According to the German media outlet Schwaebische, the incident occurred during the early hours of the morning at an abandoned old farmhouse located between the towns of Immenstadt and Oberstaufen, in the Allgäu region. Although emergency teams managed to control the flames, the structure was completely destroyed. The alarm was activated around 05:10 local time when, according to reports, a dense column of smoke was detected emanating from the building. Shortly thereafter, the fire reached the roof and spread rapidly, engulfing much of the construction. Approximately 150 personnel from various local fire companies responded to the scene, working for several hours to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby buildings. Despite the magnitude of the fire, there were no injuries. For now, the causes of the incident remain unknown. The property reportedly has a historical connection with the Kast family. According to a report published by the local portal Blaulichtreport Südschwaben/Allgäu, the destroyed property was an old residence linked to the parents of the current Chilean president. According to the publication, José Antonio Kast's parents lived in the building until 1950, before emigrating to Chile. The president's father, Michael Kast, was reportedly born in the town of Thalkirchdorf and later resided in Wiedemannsdorf, where he met his future wife. Background information gathered by the German media indicates that both were married in 1946 and established their residence on the property affected by the fire. Four years later, Kast's father emigrated to Chile and, approximately six months later, the rest of the family joined him on Chilean territory. A member of the emergency operation cited by the local media noted that “the house belongs to the family of the President of Chile,” in reference to the building's historical ties to the presidential family. Following the family's departure to South America, the property changed owners on several occasions. However, according to information disseminated by local media, years later it had reportedly become linked once again to members of the Kast family.
