More than 100 Labour MPs have signed a letter stating that "this is not the time for a leadership contest," while British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has refused to resign, according to a report in The Guardian on Tuesday.
The British newspaper reported that 103 MPs and parliamentary private secretaries have signed a statement asserting that "this is not the time for a leadership contest," demonstrating their support for Starmer.
The statement was organized by a group of MPs, many of whom are part of the 2024 intake. So far, the number of signatories exceeds the number of those calling for Starmer's resignation. According to the organizers, the number of signatories is increasing, the newspaper noted.

The letter states: "Last week, we had devastating election results. This demonstrates that we have a difficult task ahead of us to regain the trust of the electorate."
"That task must begin today, with all of us working together to achieve the change that the country needs. We must focus on that. This is not the time for a leadership contest," it continues.
This means that the pro-Starmer faction currently has a slight numerical advantage over the anti-Starmer faction. According to a count by LabourList, 88 Labour MPs have expressed the opinion that the Prime Minister should resign.
