The Cannes Film Festival kicks off tonight with the opening ceremony. Peter Jackson will be awarded the Palme d'Or, and many stars are expected to attend.

CANNES – A romantic comedy that plays with burlesque elements. The 79th edition of the Cannes Film Festival opens tonight with "La Vénus électrique," a story set in the 1920s in Paris. The opening ceremony will be hosted by French comedian Eye Haïdara, who won a César Award for the comedy "C'est la vie," about a wedding that goes horribly wrong. Director and screenwriter Pierre Salvadori portrays the vibrant 1920s, full of artistic effervescence, the charm of popular entertainment, and spiritualism, through the story of Antoine Balestro, a trendy young painter who falls into a deep depression after the death of his wife. One evening, under the influence of alcohol, Antoine tries to contact his wife through a fortune teller, who is actually an illusion created by a young woman from the amusement park, Suzanne. Antoine doesn't know this, and thanks to this trick, he rediscovers the joy of living and painting. However, as the deception progresses, Suzanne falls in love with him. The film, starring Pio Marmaï, Anaïs Demoustier, and Gilles Lellouche, will be screened simultaneously at many French film festivals, which will also show the opening ceremony, preceded by the red carpet with all the stars, and the award ceremony for Peter Jackson, who will receive the Palme d'Or for his lifetime achievement (including his 17 Oscars for the "Lord of the Rings" saga). Models like Heidi Klum and socialites like Emma Thynn, Marchioness of Bath, have already been spotted on the Croisette, as well as members of the jury, including Demi Moore, who was photographed upon her arrival at the festival.
