DEAR EDITOR:
In relation to the recent and inappropriate interventions of the Israeli ambassador on social media, it is imperative to reflect on the limits of diplomatic work and the concerning passivity of our Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It is not appropriate for a foreign representative to use platforms like X to express opinions that go beyond legitimate political discourse and border on direct threats, especially in their hostile responses to figures with the stature of former Foreign Minister Juan Gabriel Valdés.
The ambassador's digital activism, filled with a belligerence foreign to the customs and practices of professional diplomacy, erodes institutional respect between sovereign states. A diplomat should build bridges, not destroy them through public confrontation with authorities and diplomats from our country.
Even more concerning is the inaction of the Chilean government. By allowing these affronts and breaches of diplomatic protocol to occur without a firm note of protest, our administration not only validates a dangerous precedent, but also projects a weakness that compromises national dignity. Sovereignty is defended by demanding that foreign representatives on our soil strictly adhere to the Vienna Convention. It is time for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to act with the responsibility that the position demands in the face of these constant offenses.
