The platform stated that the third season will feature a time jump. The story will unfold during the height of the Elven War and Sauron's rise, as the Dark Lord seeks to forge the One Ring, which will give him the advantage needed to win the war, bind all peoples to his will, and ultimately rule all of Middle-earth. According to the company, the first season remains the largest television series premiere in the history of Prime Video, and the second season is among the top five most-watched recurring seasons of all time. The main cast members are expected to return, including Charlie Vickers (Sauron), Morfydd Clark (Galadriel), Robert Aramayo (Elrond), Owain Arthur (Durin IV), and Maxim Baldry (Isildur). The creative direction of the series will once again be led by J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay, the showrunners, writers, and producers of the series.
